Cekhira

Cekhira 

(also al-Sukhayrah, La Skhira), a port in Tunisia on the Gulf of Gabès. Population, approximately 10,000 (1970). Cekhira is the terminus of an oil pipeline running 775 km to In Amenas in the Algerian Sahara; the pipeline has a 115-km branch running to al-Borma in the Tunisian Sahara. Other pipelines include Douleb-Cekhira (165 km) and Sidi el Itayem-Cekhira (81 km). Oil is exported; the turnover in 1972 was 14.3 million tons.
