Centaurus cluster [sen′tȯr·əs ‚kləs·tər]
(astronomy)
A large cluster of galaxies that shows a composite structure, with a concentration of galaxies having recession velocities of about 3000 kilometers (1900 miles) per second, and a weaker concentration having recession velocities of about 4500 kilometers (2800 miles) per second.

Tonry told SCIENCE NEWS that he and Dressler have begun collecting data on galaxies in the Fornax and Centaurus clusters.
Using the 4-meter telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, the three looked at two galaxies: NGC 4650A in the outskirts of the Centaurus cluster and ESO 415-G26 in the constellation Fornax.
