Chávez Orozco, Luís 

Born May 28, 1901, in Irapuato; died 1966. Mexican historian and sociologist.

In 1929, Chávez Orozco served as deputy director of the National Library. He joined the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1930 and headed in succession the departments of publicity, libraries, health, and public education. In 1939 he became chief of the Department of Indian Affairs.

Chávez Orozco’s works on the history, economy, and sociology of Mexico are written from a democratic, anti-imperialist point of view.
