In east-central IL west of Danville; organized Feb 20, 1833 from Vermilion County. Name Origin: For the county in OH, from French campagne 'field, plain.'

Area (sq mi): 997.53 (land 996.81; water 0.73). Pop per sq mi: 185.50.
Pop 2005: 184,905. State rank: 11. Pop change: 2000-20005 2.90%; 1990-2000 3.80%. Pop 2000: 179,669 (White 77.40%; Black or African American 11.20%; Hispanic or Latino 2.90%; Asian 6.50%; Other 3.50%). Foreign born: 8.00%. Median age: 28.60.
