a lake in the northeastern USA and in Canada. Lake Champlain has an area of 1,137 sq km and reaches a depth of 183 m. The basin is of tectonic origin. The lake drains into the St. Lawrence River and is part of the waterway that connects the Hudson River with the St. Lawrence. The cities of Burlington and Plattsburgh are situated on Lake Champlain.
