Changhua or Changhwa (both: jäng`hwä`), city (1995 pop. 223,675), central Taiwan. It is a transportation center as well as a market for rice and fruit. Its industries include food processing, hatmaking, and sawmilling. There are deposits of marble and asbestos nearby. Settled in the 17th cent., Changhua was once an important fort.
