Bell, Charles 

Born November 1774 in Edinburgh; died Apr. 28, 1842, in Hallow Park, near Worcester. Scottish anatomist, physiologist, and surgeon. Became a professor at Edinburgh University in 1836.

Bell wrote several studies of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, as well as a two-volume manual on surgery. He first established that the front roots of the spinal nerves contain the motor fibers, and the back ones the sensory fibers. The Bell-Magendie law was based on experimental data published by Bell.
