Chase, Gilbert (1906–92) musicologist; born in Havana, Cuba. Chase wrote music criticism in the 1930s and in the next decade worked for the Library of Congress and for National Broadcasting Company radio; thereafter he taught and administrated at various schools including the University of Oklahoma, Tulane, and the University of Texas. He was a noted specialist in the music of the Americas, and his books include the classic history America's Music (3rd ed. 1987). How to thank TFD for its existence?
