Chemnitz or Kemnitz, Martin (both: kĕm`nĭts), 1522–86, German Lutheran theologian. Under the tutelage of Phillip Melanchthon Melanchthon, Philip (məlăngk`thən), 1497–1560, German scholar and humanist.
