Cheyne-Stokes respiration [′chān·ē ′stōks res·pə′rā·shən]
(medicine) Breathing characterized by periods of hyperpnea alternating with periods of apnea; rhythmic waxing and waning of respiration; occurs most commonly in older patients with heart failure and cerebrovascular disease.
