In northwest-central GA, north of Atlanta; original county; established Dec 21, 1830 from Cherokee lands. Name Origin: For the Indian tribe of Iroquoian linguistic stock who occupied the land at the time. Name may derive from Creek tciloki 'people of a different speech.'
