Chichibu

Chichibu (chē`chēb), city (1990 pop. 60,915), Saitama prefecture, central Japan, on the Ara River. It is a center for the manufacture of silk fabrics. Rich reserves of limestone and iron ore in the area support the city's cement and construction stone industries. The city's Chichibu (Shinto) Shrine is a major tourist attraction.

said Tuesday it will double its production capacity of ultrabright light-emitting diode chips at its plant in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, to 200 million units a month.
Starting from April 7, Marusan's branch offices in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward will be barred from conducting brokerage operations on the TSE for four days, while its office in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, will be banned from doing so for two days, the TSE said.
A native of Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, Arai joined Domei news agency, predecessor to Kyodo News, in 1936 and became chief editor of the news agency's political and economic section in 1945.
