Duncans, Chinese
the largest group of the Chinese Hui (Hui-tsu) peoples. They live in the Ningsia Hui and Sinkiang-Uighur autonomous regions and Kansu Province in the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese Dungans speak the Mandarin dialect of Chinese with many borrowings from the Arabic and Persian languages. Dungan believers profess Islam. Their chief occupation is farming (winter and spring wheat and legumes; truck farming); they also raise cattle and sheep. Some Dungans are porters, craftsmen, and traders.
