Akhmarov, Chingiz Gabdurakhmanovich 

Born Aug. 5 (18), 1912, in Troitsk, Orenburg Province. Soviet monumental painter, People’s Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1964).

Akhmarov graduated from the Moscow Art Institute (1942); he studied under I. E. Grabar’ and N. M. Cher-nyshev. He did the murals in the lobby of the A. Navoi Theater of Opera and Ballet in Tashkent (1944–47, on themes of A. Navoi’s works; he was awarded a USSR State Prize in 1948) and in the M. Dzhalil Theater of Opera and Ballet in Kazan (1954–55, on themes of music, dance, and painting), and at the A. Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies in Tashkent (1968–69). Akhmarov also created a wall panel for the Ulugbek Museum in Samarkand (1963—64) and a number of easel portraits illustrating works by Uzbek writers. He was awarded the Khamza State Prize of the Uzbek Republic (1968) and has received two orders.
