Chippewa, Battle of(July 5, 1814) Engagement in the War of 1812 that restored U.S. military morale. After U.S. troops under Winfield Scott captured Fort Erie, N.Y., they began to push north into Canada. A British force marched south from Fort George and attacked them at Chippewa.
