Chistiakov, Ivan Dorofeevich
Born October 1843 in the Caucasus; died June 3 (15), 1877, in Moscow. Russian botanist. Upon graduation from Moscow University in 1868, Chistiakov joined the university’s teaching staff. In 1871 he was appointed professor and director of the university’s botanical gardens. Chistiakov was the founder of the Moscow school of plant embryologists and cytologists. He was one of the first to observe and describe mitosis in plants (1874). REFERENCEStankov, S.
