Chizhikov, David Mikhailovich
Born Nov. 5 (17), 1895, in Novaia Priluka, in what is now Vinnitsa Oblast; died Aug. 24, 1974, in Moscow. Soviet metallurgist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1939). Member of the CPSU from 1921. Upon graduation from the Moscow Academy of Mines in 1924, Chizhikov worked as an engineering director at various enterprises. From 1933 to 1941 he worked at the Moscow Institute of Non-ferrous Metals and Gold, where he became a professor in 1934. He worked at the Institute of Metallurgy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1939 to 1974. Chizhikov’s principal work dealt with the theory and technology of electrothermal production of nonferrous and rare metals, the chlorination of complex metal and tin ores, and the electrolysis of sulfide materials. Chizhikov received the State Prize of the USSR twice (1942 and 1951). He was also awarded the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and several medals. WORKSMetallurgiia svintsa.
