Cholpon-Ata

Cholpon-Ata 

a city (since 1975) under oblast jurisdiction and the administrative center of Issyk-Kul’ Raion, Issyk-Kul’ Oblast, Kirghiz SSR. Cholpon-Ata is located at an elevation of more than 1,600 m, on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul’, 225 km east of the city of Frunze and 75 km from the Rybach’e railroad station. It is a climatic health resort. The summers are moderately warm, with an average July temperature of 17°C, and the winters are mild, with an average January temperature of –3°C; annual precipitation totals 250 mm. Therapeutic remedies include climatotherapy and the silt mud and mineral water from Lake Issyk-Kul’. Persons suffering from disorders of the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system are treated. Medical facilities include sanatoriums for adults, a children’s pulmonary tuberculosis sanatorium, and a hydropelotherapeutic clinic. There is a milk combine in Cholpon-Ata. Also in the city is the house-museum of the Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov.

The Project covers the towns of Balykchy, Cholpon-Ata and Karakol, which are objects of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
The memorandum, signed at the resort of Cholpon-Ata on Kyrgyzstan's Lake Issyk Kul, said the size of the contingent could be up to a battalion.
Along the way, a stop at Cholpon-Ata lets you take in the open air art museum, said to date from 500 BC.
