Christensen, Arthur
Born Jan. 9, 1875, in Copenhagen; died there, Mar. 31, 1945. Danish Orientalist and authority on the history and literature of ancient and medieval Iran and the modern Iranian language. Christensen graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 1899, becoming a professor there in 1919. His most important works deal with the history of the Sassanid state and Zoroastrianism and with ancient Persian mythology and epics. He also wrote a book on Mazdakism, which he regarded as “one of the first communist movements.” WORKSL’Iran sous les Sassanides, 2nd. ed.
