Chudovo

a city (since 1937) and administrative center of Chudovo Raion, Novgorod Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the Kerest’ River (basin of Lake Ladoga). Chudovo is a railroad junction at the intersection of the Bologoe-Leningrad and Novgorod-Volkhov lines. The Leningrad-Moscow highway runs through the city.

Chudovo has a match factory, a glassworks, a plant producing reinforced-concrete sleepers, a branch of the Novgorod Glove Production Association, a food-processing combine, and a milk plant; a branch of the Nevskii Zavod Production Association is under construction. Points of interest include the house-museums of N. A. Nekrasov, who spent summers in Chudovo from 1871 to 1876, and G. I. Uspenskii, who lived there in the 1880’s.
