an urban-type settlement in the Yakut ASSR, under the jurisdiction of the Neriungri city soviet. Chul’man is situated on the Chul’man River of the Lena River basin, on the Amur-Yakutsk highway, 402 km north of the Bol’shoi Never railroad station on the Trans-Siberian Railroad and 40 km north of the Berkakit railroad station on the Tynda-Berkakit line. Coal is mined in the area, and the settlement has a state regional power plant and an enterprise serving motor-vehicle transportation.
