Cîmpina(kŭm`pēnä), town (1990 pop. 40,473), S central Romania, in Walachia. It is a major petroleum center; chemical and engineering works are also located there. In the foothills of the Transylvanian Alps, the city is also a summer resort. The city is connected by oil pipeline with Ploieşti and with the port of Constanţa on the Black Sea.

It refines oil and produces equipment for the petroleum industry. There are also woodworking, textile, chemical, and food enterprises. Cîmpina has a steam power plant.
