Citlaltépetl (sētlältāpetəl) or Orizaba (ōrēsä`bä), peak, 18,700 ft (5,700 m) high, in the Cordillera de Anáhuas, E Mexico, on the Veracruz-Puebla border. It is the highest peak in Mexico and the third highest in North America. This snowcapped volcano is inactive; the last eruption occurred in 1687. The peak was first climbed in 1848. Citlaltépetlor OrizabaVolcano, south-central Mexico. Reaching 18,406 ft (5,610 m) high, its symmetrical, snowcapped cone is the highest point in Mexico and the third highest peak in North America. The volcano has been dormant since 1687. |
