a city in northwestern Mexico, in the state of Sonora. Situated on the Río Yaqui, on the Mexico City-Mazatlán-Nogales railroad line and highway. Population, 137,100 (1973). Ciudad Obregón has a railroad station. The city is the center of an irrigated farming region that produces cotton, oil plants, wheat, and vegetables. It has enterprises for the production of foodstuffs, textiles (mainly cotton), and chemicals.
