Clapp, Verner, 1901–72, American librarian, b. Johannesburg, South Africa. After studying philosophy at Harvard, Clapp worked for the Library of Congress (1922–56), becoming chief assistant librarian in 1947. He also did much work for the United Nations and served as chairman of the U.S. Library Mission to Japan (1947–48). From 1956 to 1967 he was president of the Council on Library Resources. He has written The Future of the Research Library (1963) and Copyright: A Librarian's View (1968). How to thank TFD for its existence?
