1 City (1990 pop. 32,503), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in a citrus farm area at the foot of the San Gabriel Mts.; inc. 1907. Mainly residential, the city is an educational center and has light manufacturing. The Claremont Colleges Claremont Colleges, at Claremont, Calif.; including five liberal arts and sciences colleges and two graduate schools; founded 1925, known until 1961 as the Associated Colleges at Claremont. Their history began with Pomona College (inc. 2 City (1990 pop. 13,902), Sullivan co., SW N.H., in a farm and dairy area, on the Sugar River near its junction with the Connecticut; inc. 1764. It has plants that manufacture footwear, apparel, brushes, textiles, machinery, and paper. The oldest Roman Catholic church in the state (begun 1823) is there, and in nearby West Claremont is Union Church, the state's oldest Episcopal church (begun 1773).
