Clausius virial theorem [′klȯz·ē·əs ′vir·ē·əl ′thir·əm]
(statistical mechanics) The theorem that in a system of particles whose positions and velocities are bounded, the total kinetic energy of the system averaged over a long period of time equals the virial of the system.
