In west-central PA, north of Altoona; organized Mar 26, 1804 from Lycoming and Huntingdon counties. Functioned as part of Centre County in early years; first county commissioners elected 1812, courts established 1822. Name Origin: For Clearfield Creek, which runs through a part of the county where buffalo had cleared the undergrowth.

Area (sq mi): 1153.80 (land 1147.32; water 6.49). Pop per sq mi: 72.20.
Pop 2005: 82,783. State rank: 36. Pop change: 2000-20005 -0.70%; 1990-2000 6.80%. Pop 2000: 83,382 (White 97.10%; Black or African American 1.50%; Hispanic or Latino 0.60%; Asian 0.30%; Other 0.90%). Foreign born: 0.70%. Median age: 39.30.
Income 2000: per capita $16,010; median household $31,357; Pop below poverty level: 12.50%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $21,583-$23,476.
Unemployment 2004: 7.10%. Change from 2000: -1.20%. Median travel time to work: 24.30 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 28.20%.

The funding will provide the project equity requirements for BioEnergy's 108 million gallon per year ethanol project located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
BioEnergy International, LLC (BioEnergy), a biotechnology company developing proprietary technologies to produce ethanol and specialty chemicals from traditional feedstocks as well as cellulose, and Lukoil Americas Corporation (Lukoil), a leading marketer of petroleum products through its downstream subsidiary, announced today the development of a 108 million gallon per year ethanol project to be located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
