In north-central MN, east of Grand Forks, ND; established Dec 2, 1902 from Beltrami County. Name Origin: For Clearwater River and Lake, which are partly within the county.

Pop 2005: 8,476. State rank: 75. Pop change: 2000-20005 0.60%; 1990-2000 1.40%. Pop 2000: 8,423 (White 89.10%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 0.80%; Asian 0.20%; Other 10.30%). Foreign born: 0.90%. Median age: 39.70.

On the eastern border of the ID panhandle, east of Lewiston; organized Feb 27, 1911 from Nez Perce County. Name Origin: For the Clearwater River, itself named for the translation of the Nez Perce descriptive name.
