Size: 1,800,000 acres.
Location: North-central Idaho. Accessible by US 12 and 95. Nearby cities/towns include Kooskia, Lewiston, Orofino, and Moscow.
Facilities: 2 visitor centers, 8 cabins, campgrounds, picnic sites, trails (1,700 miles), scenic drives.
Activities: Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, kayaking, rafting, hiking, ORV riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing.
Special Features: Forest is composed mainly of deep forested canyons interspersed with high, rugged ridges. Attractions include the Lewis and Clark Highway (US 12), a scenic drive through some of Northern Idaho's most beautiful scenery, with interpretive stops along the way; Lewis and Clark and Nez Perce national historic trails (see separate entries in national trails section); Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness; Mallard-Larkins Pioneer Area.

A wolf predation study in Idaho's Clearwater National Forest showed 32 percent of cow elk mortality was due to wolves.
