Climatron
a usually domelike structure of transparent materials in which conditions (temperature, humidity, light) are created artificially to approximate the climate of different geographical zones. Plant communities characteristic of different habitats (rather than individual species, as in a phytotron) are grown in a climatron. The largest climatron, with a dome 21 m high and an area of 2,000 sq m, is in the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Mo. A climatron is being built (1973) in the USSR on the grounds of the Main Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
