Cloninger, Claude Robert

Cloninger, Claude Robert (1944–  ) psychiatric researcher, educator; born in Beaumont, Texas. He became affiliated with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., in 1973, becoming head of the department of psychiatry in 1989. A specialist in the genetic epidemiology of psychiatric disorders, his areas of interest included personality disorders, schizophrenia, and alcoholism. In the 1990s, he undertook molecular genetic linkage studies of the inheritance of alcoholism.
