Cloninger, Claude Robert (1944– ) psychiatric researcher, educator; born in Beaumont, Texas. He became affiliated with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., in 1973, becoming head of the department of psychiatry in 1989. A specialist in the genetic epidemiology of psychiatric disorders, his areas of interest included personality disorders, schizophrenia, and alcoholism.
