(civil engineering) In masonry work, the last brick or other masonry component that is laid in a horizontal course. Also known as closure. A stone course that extends from one windowsill to another. closer closer, 1 1. The last brick, block, stone, or tile laid in a horizontal course; may be either a complete unit or one trimmed on the site. 2.
