Offshore flights were being delayed all day on Wednesday and the cloud base was so low it enveloped the helideck of the ETAP platform.
The North East will have some protection from the worst of it by a low cloud base, preventing some of the heat loss from the ground.
However, because the cloud base was either too high or too weak it couldn't touch the ground, so it just hung there in suspension.
