Clwyd, former county, WalesClwyd (kl `ĭd), former county, N Wales, created in 1974 from Flintshire and parts of Denbighshire and Merionethshire. It was dissolved in 1996 and divided among the unitary authorities of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham, Conwy, and Powys.Clwyd, river, WalesClwyd, river, c.30 mi (50 km) long, rising in Denbighshire, N Wales. It flows N through the Vale of Clwyd to the Irish Sea at Rhyl.
