Coblentz, W. W. (William Weber) (1873–1962) physicist; born in North Lima, Ohio. He was a research associate at the Carnegie Institution (1903–05), then became chief of radiometry for the National Bureau of Standards (1905–45). He applied radiometry to astrophysics, infrared spectroscopy, and the standardization of ultraviolet light for medical purposes.
