Coca-Cola 600 May, Memorial Day weekend The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race of the four big races of the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) Sprint Cup circuit (formerly the Winston Cup). The race is held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. The track, which opened in 1960, installed special lights in 1992 to be the first super speedway ever to have nighttime racing. The track is a mile-and-a-half long, and the 600-mile race covers 400 laps. Lowe's Motor Speedway is also the home track for NASCAR, and many racing teams are based near the speedway. The 2009 event was the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600, which has become a Memorial Daytradition. In the week preceding the 600, the Charlotte 600 Festival offers a variety of downtown events, including a parade.
