Name Origin: For William Cocke (1747-1828), explorer with Daniel Boone (c.1734-1820), TN legislator and judge, and U.S. senator (1796-97; 1799-1805). Area (sq mi): 443.15 (land 434.40; water 8.75). Pop per sq mi: 80.40. Pop 2005: 34,929. State rank: 41. Pop change: 2000-20005 4.10%; 1990-2000 15.20%. Pop 2000: 33,565 (White 95.50%; Black or African American 2.00%; Hispanic or Latino 1.10%; Asian 0.20%; Other 1.70%). Foreign born: 0.80%. Median age: 38.60.
