On the central eastern border of TN, east of Knoxville; organized Aug 9, 1797 from Jefferson County. Name Origin: For William Cocke (1747-1828), explorer with Daniel Boone (c.1734-1820), TN legislator and judge, and U.S. senator (1796-97; 1799-1805)
