Name Origin: For Col. Asbury M. Coffey, a Confederate officer and settler from MO; first known white man in KS; served as a member of the Bogus Legislature in 1855. Area (sq mi): 654.57 (land 629.75; water 24.82). Pop per sq mi: 13.80. Pop 2005: 8,683. State rank: 46. Pop change: 2000-20005 -2.10%; 1990-2000 5.50%.
