Active optical clocks provide several new possibilities of applications: (i) more stable optical clock than any current atomic clocks; (ii) sub-natural linewidth laser spectroscopy; (iii) long coherence time laser with linewidth at mHz level; (iv) Ramsey laser combining stimulated emission process and Ramsey separated oscillatory fields method," commented Professor Yiqiu Wang.
Josephson junctions are good candidates for a quantum computer with recent experiments demonstrating reasonably long coherence times, state preparation, manipulation and measurement, and coupling of qubits for even-tual gate operations.
The incredibly long coherence times of atomic hyperfine states make them ideally suited for frequency standards and quantum information processing.
