Cohn, Mildred (1913– ) biochemist, biophysicist; born in New York City. She performed research at Cornell (1938–46), then moved to Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) (1946–60). She joined the University of Pennsylvania (1960–82), and remained active after retirement, serving the Institute for Cancer Research (Philadelphia) (1982–85) and lecturing as a visiting professor at various institutions. She made major advances in enzymology, the use of stable isotopes in metabolic studies, and in biophysical investigations of electron spin and nuclear magnetic resonance.
