Coles, Robert Martin (1929–  ) psychiatrist, author; born in Boston, Mass. Beginning in 1960 he was affiliated with the Harvard University Medical School, becoming professor of psychiatry and medical humanities in 1978. He devoted his professional life to the psychology of children and wrote the Pulitizer Prize-winning series Children of Crisis (1967–1978), which details the resilience and courage of young children in various "crisis" situations throughout the world.
