Colman, Samuel, Jr. (1832–1920) painter; born in Portland, Maine. He studied with Asher B. Durand in New York, and then abroad (1860–62 and 1871–75). Based in Newport, R.I., he painted Hudson River views as well as western landscapes, such as Ships of the Plains (1872).
