colorectal cancerMalignant tumour of the large intestine (colon) or rectum. Risk factors include age (after age 50), family history of colorectal cancer, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, benign polyps, physical inactivity, and a diet high in fat. No references found | There are many risk factors for coo-rectal cancer, some of these are preventable while others are not It is thought that around half of all colo-rectal cancer deaths could be prevented through regular screenings and lifestyle changes There are many risk factors for coo-rectal cancer, some of these are preventable while others are not. This year, nearly 150,000 people will be diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer and over 50,000 people will die from the disease. The research, conducted by a team from Harvard University and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, tracked the eating habits of more than 88,000 female nurses over 16 years and found that women who ate a high-fiber diet were no less likely to develop colo-rectal cancer or polyps, which can be a precursor to cancer, than women who ate little fiber. |
