On the northeastern border of OH, east of Canton; organized May 1, 1803 from Jefferson and Washington counties. Name Origin: A variation of Columbus or Columbia, for Christopher Columbus (1451-1506). The ending '-iana' may be the feminine form, which was considered appropriate for place names, or it may refer to an unidentified person named Anne or Anna.
