Name Origin: A variation of Columbus or Columbia, for Christopher Columbus (1451-1506). The ending '-iana' may be the feminine form, which was considered appropriate for place names, or it may refer to an unidentified person named Anne or Anna. Area (sq mi): 535.18 (land 532.46; water 2.73). Pop per sq mi: 208.30. Pop 2005: 110,928. State rank: 25. Pop change: 2000-20005 -1.00%; 1990-2000 3.50%. Pop 2000: 112,075 (White 95.50%; Black or African American 2.20%; Hispanic or Latino 1.20%; Asian 0.20%; Other 1.10%). Foreign born: 1.40%. Median age: 38.50.
