In N CA, NW of Sacramento; original county; organized Feb 18, 1850 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: From the name of a former village of the Patwin Indians; earlier spelled Colusi.

Area (sq mi): 1156.22 (land 1150.68; water 5.54). Pop per sq mi: 18.30.
Pop 2005: 21,095. State rank: 51. Pop change: 2000-20005 12.20%; 1990-2000 15.50%. Pop 2000: 18,804 (White 48.00%; Black or African American 0.50%; Hispanic or Latino 46.50%; Asian 1.20%; Other 33.90%). Foreign born: 27.60%. Median age: 31.50.
Income 2000: per capita $14,730; median household $35,062; Pop below poverty level: 16.10%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $23,402-$26,711.
Unemployment 2004: 13.40%. Change from 2000: -4.20%. Median travel time to work: 22.00 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 19.70%.

Media reports said the accident had occurred at 6:18 pm Sunday (0118 GMT Monday) on Lone Star Road in Colusa County.
The issue came up as a discussion item for the statewide commission because of a spat between rural Colusa County and the Yuba Community College District, which had a remote center located in Colusa, but then eliminated it due to budget cuts.
Gibbs, 55, had held the position since January 2000 when the board hired him from the Colusa County Fair, which he ran for 16 years.
