Colutea
(bladder senna), a genus of plants of the family Leguminosae. The plants are deciduous shrubs, most of which lack thorns and have odd-pinnate leaves. The flowers are papilionaceous, usually yellow, and in axillary racemes. The fruits are inflated, many-seeded pods. There are approximately 25 species of Colutea, distributed in Southern Europe, Northwest and East Africa, and West and Central Asia. The USSR has 13 species (Middle Asia, the Caucasus, the Crimea), ten of which are raised as ornamentals. C. arborescens is the most commonly cultivated species in the genus.
