Coma cluster [′kō·mə ‚kləs·tər]
(astronomy)
A group of over 1000 bright galaxies having a recession velocity of about 4300 miles (6900 kilometers) per second.
An open cluster of about 100 stars at a distance of about 80 parsecs (1.5 × c1015miles or 2.5 × 1015kilometers).

That's when Fritz Zwicky noticed that galaxies in the Coma cluster were spinning so rapidly that all the visible material wasn't enough to keep them from flying apart.
A decade ago, Kronberg and other coworkers made such a calculation for Earth's largest nearby galaxy cluster--the Coma cluster in the constellation Coma Berenices.
These galaxies are already on the scrimmage line, ready to collapse into a big pile, which is going to be a cluster like the [present-day, well-observed] Coma cluster.
