Conant, Kenneth (John) (1894–1984) architectural historian; born in Neenah, Wis. Himself Harvard trained, he taught generations of architectural historians at Harvard (1920–55) and wrote Carolingian and Romanesque Architecture 800–1200 (1959); he devoted decades to research on the monastic church at Cluny, France. His object-oriented, technical historiography fell out of fashion after the 1940s. How to thank TFD for its existence?
